CINQUE TERRE, THE FIVE GEMS OF THE LIGURIAN RIVIERA

'Cinque Terre' but only one beauty, a unique work where the generosity and perfection of nature joins harmoniously the human intervention.

The charm of the five fishing villages of Manarola , Riomaggiore , Corniglia , Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare leaves its mark on everybody, even on a distract visitor .

Those who visit the Cinque Terre are fascinated by the beauty of an absolutely virgin sea, but also from the mainland, where a natural wild state, enriched with vineyards, olive groves and citrus orchards witness as men have been able to tie their lives and traditions to this part of the coast.

The old village of Monterosso al Mare is suspended on a hill which offers a splendid view. A must see the old Castle, the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Capuccini Convent . The modern area, instead, has developed in the lower part called Fegina, with a lovely beach where you can admire the "Giant" , a statue of the god Neptune 14 m high.

Riomaggiore, the most visited village of Cinque Terre and the first that you encounter coming from La Spezia. From here it begins a fascinating route of the 20th century,  carved into the rock, that leads to Manarola: the famous “Street of Love”. Another route not to be missed is the Blue Trail that runs through the National Park of Cinque Terre.

Vernazza has a quaint harbor as a confirmation of its ancient maritime traditions. With its defensive constructions it also combines finest architectures as decorated portals and porches that overlook on the narrow streets that descend steep towards the square of the port. Worth it a visit to the Parrocchiale di Santa Maria di Antiochia, Santuario della Madonna di Reggio and to the Castello dei Doria.

Manarola, perched on a rock overlooking the sea, is one of the best examples of how men has been able to tame this wild and rocky area, building their homes and creating terraces to cultivate orchards and vineyards. Unique landscapes can be admired from the promontory of Punta Bonfiglio or the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Health Volastra .

Through a long line of steps, maybe a little bit difficult to climb but very impressive, Corniglia comes on the top of a hill covered with vineyards. Rich of fine wines such as the Cinque Terre DOC, the Polenza and the famous Sciacchetrà . Down the promontory, the famous beach of Givano, favorite destination for naturists.

The Cinque Terre, Porto Venere and the three islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto have been included in the UNESCO Word Heritage List as another example of Italic places protected for their beauty.

Porto Venere, in fact, is an elegant holiday destination and the perfect combination of nature and architecture. Like other cities of the Ligurian coast has a lovely marina, surrounded by the infinite range of colors of the houses , the steep stairways and narrow alleys. The splendid Church of St. Peter, who stands by the promontory of “Le Bocche” . Built in the early Christian era and rebuilt in Gothic style, your breath will be surely taken away looking from the church. Characteristic also the Sanctuary of the Madonna Bianca, formerly church of San Lorenzo, built in the 12th  century in Romanesque style, it was later restored and enlarged and the Doria Castle, a majestic military fortress.

In front of Portovenere there are the three islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, all part of the Regional Park of Portovenere. Palmaria is the largest and is very popular with tourists who visit the boat with the beautiful Blue Grotto. Magnificent places for the precious historical and cultural value, where the landscape is simply unique and offers stunning sea views and spectacular examples of local flora and fauna.
