PARMA – THE TIMELESS CENTER STAGE OF RENAISSANCE

Parma, situated in the Italian Emilia-Romagna region is a city that since ages have been the Italian cultural center stage of music, art, architecture, ham or prosciutto, and music. The city is also famous around the world for its heritage in the world of learning and education, thanks to the University of Parma, which happens to be one of the most ancient universities on this planet. The city is located near the River Oltretorrente, and is one of the oldest of its kind in not only Italy, but in entire Europe. The history of Parma dates back to the ages of Attila the Hun, who captured and ransacked the city, though the city was founded far before that, by Augustus. The Middle ages saw the city become the center stage of the battle between the Ghibellines and Guelphs, and subsequently years of battles, captures and other important incidents that gave the city today’s fame and fortune. The most amazing feature of the city is that it is home to some of the oldest architecture and monuments and these are the things along with the ambience of the city that attract a lot of people from all over the world throughout every year. Some of the oldest and the most remarkable architectures include the Parma Cathedral, which is a typical Roman styled Church, which has a 12th Century sculptural masterpiece that was created by Benedetto Antelami and another fresco masterpiece created by Antonio da Correggio in the 16th Century. Other places of historical interest include San Giovanni Evangelista, which is an Abbey Church, the Santa Maria della Steccata Sanctuary, the erstwhile Convent houses of Benedictine in San Paolo, San Francesco del Prato, which is a Gothic Church that was used a jail till the1990s since the era of Napoleon. Then there is Santa Croce, another typical Roman church, San Sepolcro, another Church that was built around the same period, and the likes. The city is home to a wide number of historical monuments and other places of tremendous archeological importance. Hence, it is no wonder that the city will be well connected with the rest of the country, as well as other parts of Europe with the help of rail links, road links and air links. The city is also home to some wonderful restaurants that bars, hotels and rest houses that offer the best of the Italian hospitality along with the best Italian and continental cuisines. Some of the most enchanting cuisines that Parma is famous for include the likes of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, which is also known as the true "parmesan’, Prosciutto di Parma or ‘pure ham’, Tortelli d'erbetta, Anolini in brood, and the likes. Apart from the historical significance, the city of Parma is also famous all over the world for its footballing history and prowess. The city is home of one of the best Italian soccer clubs – F.C.
