PISA – THE CITY THAT REDEFINES ARISTOCRACY

Located on the right bank of the river Arno, right at the point where she merges with the Tyrrhenian Sea, Pisa is one of the most illustrious and coveted cities of not only Tuscany and Italy, but of the entire Europe. The city is known all over the world for its Leaning Tower, which is actually the Bell Tower of its main cathedral, Piazza del Duomo at the Cathedral Square, the city is full of other extravagant middle age architectural beauties that make Pisa one of the most fascinating cities of the world. The specialty of the city is that there is a sense of aristocracy and class in its air. There is a charm that makes the city rich in class and makes it an out of the world place in the truest sense. The list of must-visit places in the city seems to be practically endless. Though the star attraction of the city is the Leaning Tower of Pisa (or Torre Pendente di Pisa), you will find a string of fantastic museums, buildings, palaces, monuments etc. that will leave you awe-struck. The main cathedral of the city is Piazza del Duomo, or Piazza dei Miracoli, which means the Square of Miracles, which is located in the north of the center of the old town. The place houses the Cathedral or the Duomo, the Campo Santo or the monumental cemetery, and the Baptistry. Other sites include Piazza dei Cavalieri or the Knight’s Square, the Church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri, Church of St. Sixtus, Church of St. Francis, Church of Santa Maria della Spina, Church of San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno, Church of San Pietro in Vinculis, Borgo Stretto, Medici Palace, Orto botanico di Pisa, Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Gambacorti, Palazzo Agostini. When it comes to the museums, Pisa is home to some world famous middle age museums like Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, Museo delle Sinopie, Museo Nazionale di San Matteo, Museo Nazionale di Palazzo Reale, Museo Nazionale degli Strumenti per il Calcolo, Museo di storia naturale e del territorio dell'Università di Pisa, Palazzo Blu. The other extremely notable site of the city is the University of Pisa, particularly world famous for its excellence in the field of Computer Science, Physics, Engineering and Mathematics. Other notable educational institutions in Pisa include Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa. Apart from these breath taking architectures and buildings the USP of the city is its streets and lanes, some of which have been there for centuries. They are generally dotted on both sides by some exquisite shops and departmental stores, restaurants, hotels and bars that will offer you the very taste of Pisa in the form of its exquisite cuisines, some rare and classic wines and other drinks and of course the great traditional hospitality that Pisa is famous for. The only thing that people need to be aware of is the pickpockets who generally throng the places of tourist interest and take the advantage of the commotion to test their prowess. The city is well connected by train, planes and bus. The city is well connected with train service that is centered on the Pisa Centrale or the main rail station in the city. The city’s nearest airport is the Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport, which is located at Tuscany. The Florence-Pisa A11 motorway and the Genoa-Livorno A12 motorways are the two main ways to get to the city by road. Pisa is also famous for its festivals that include the Annual Luminara festival, which is held on 16th June on each year, and the Game of Bridge or the Gioco del Ponte that is held on the last Sunday of the month of June each year.
