PORTOFINO – THE QUIET SOJOURN FOR THE ITALIAN DOLPHINS

Situated on a peninsula in the Gulf of Tigullio on the eastern coast of Genoa in Liguria, in North Italy, Portofino is a small fishing village and is one of the most famous vacation Italian resorts. The city is a part of the famous Italian Riviera and is actually a fishing village. The city also has a small harbor and is chiefly famous for an array of brightly colored buildings that dot the coastline. The city is also famous for some of the most famous Italian beaches like Paraggi, Chiavari, Sestri Levante, Camogli, and Lavagna.   The city is home to just 500 residents, but is home to some of the most luxurious villas and resorts owned by the rich and famous of Italy and other parts of Europe and the rest of the world. But this is only the tip of the iceberg. The city has much to offer – especially during the summers. This small town springs to life with yachts that dot the pristine water, innumerable boutiques that line the roads and alleys of the city, at galleries that brim to the fullest with art enthusiasts and tourists from the world over, cafes and restaurants that line the tiny lanes and streets. Diving, beach going, hiking, various water sporting events create all the buzz in the air and the city remains one of the most happening places in Italy, all throughout the bright, sunny warm summer days.   The brightly colored buildings, and the crystalline, green waters that is home to a myriad aquatic life, all the buzz in the air, the castle that sits atop the hill, overlooking the entire place – all combine to form what can easily be termed as the gala of a feast in the world of travel and tourism, more so, as far as Italy is concerned.   Getting to Portofino is pretty easy. There are frequent ferry services from Camogli, Rapallo and Margherita Ligure to Portofino. Tourists also have the leverage of getting to the city from Genoa and other towns of the Riviera by hiring private boats and private cruises. However, the ferry service is available from late spring till the early fall.   For those who are looking to avail the rail service, the nearest railway station is at Santa Margherita Ligure and Camogli. There is a bus service that will take you till the outskirts of the city from the Santa Margherita Ligure railway station. Generally, the narrow roads discourage driving in Portofino, and it is a car-free city. During the summers, the city remains overtly overcrowded, and there is a serious lack of parking space, making driving through the narrow streets all the more difficult.   Being a seaside city, the restaurants and hotels in Portofino are famous for a wide range of sea foods. The city is home to some formidable 4 star hotels that provide a modest range of luxury and some really sumptuous cuisines that are predominantly Italian. Going back to the castle atop the hill, it is the Castello Brown, surrounded by a magnificent garden full of some lush green foliage, which is bound to leave you fascinated. The castle offers a breathtaking view of the sea and the entire town and is a ‘must go spot’ for the tourists.   The city is also famous for some local DOC wines that will leave you drooling, like Cinque Terre and the Sciachetrà.   Last but not the least, the city is also famous for some illustrious hiking trails along the coastline and inland, through the forests that are full of wildflowers, grasslands, and the famous Olive trees.   Properties for sale in Portofino >>
