ROME, THE CITY THAT THRILLS AND SEDUCES YOU

Rome, the capital of Italy, is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its historic center, along with extraterritorial properties of the Vatican within the city and the Basilica of St. Paul outside the walls , is among the 49 Italian sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The old town, enclosed within the Aurelian walls (on the left of the Tiber) and Janiculum walls (on the right) includes 25,000 points of interest in environmental and archaeological sectors.

Legend has it that Rome was founded in 753 BC, two brothers, Romulus and Remus, suckled by the famous Lupa, which has become the quintessential symbol of the capital, along with one of its most important monuments: the Coliseum. But it is the story that made Rome great: first, center of the Roman Republic, then hub of political and cultural life of the Empire, and , in the 4th century, capital of the Christian world.

The World Heritage site, extended in 1990 to Urban VIII walls, includes some of the most important monuments, like the Fori Imperiali. Not far away, on the Aventine Hill, there are two masterpieces, home of the entertainment of the Romans: The baths of Caracalla, one of the greatest examples of public toilets , and the Circus Maximus , built for chariot races .

Moving north along the river the Mausoleum of Augustus, imposing funeral monument wanted by the Emperor Augustus in 29 BC on his return from Alexandria , reminiscent of the tomb of Alexander the Great. Another famous mausoleum is Hadrian’s, on which rises Castel Sant'Angelo. Radically changed in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, it is connected to the Vatican by a fortified corridor, ‘Il Passetto’.

In the historic center of Rome there is the Pantheon, a temple dedicated to the gods of Olympus, wanted by the Emperor Hadrian and called by the Romans "La Rotonda".

Monumental columns of a great interest are also: Trajan's Column , erected to celebrate the conquest of Dacia by Emperor Trajan and the Column of Marcus Aurelius to honor the victories over the Germans and placed in front of Palazzo Chigi (the current site of the Government) in the beautiful Piazza Colonna.

Then many squares, unforgettable sights of Rome: Campo dei Fiori with statue in the middle of the heretical philosopher Giordano Bruno; Piazza Navona, where it stands the beautiful Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini; Piazza di Spagna that is dominated by the famous “Spanish Steps”; Piazza del Popolo with the twin churches; Piazza Venezia with its impressive Victorian monument, behind which stands the Capitol ; the Largo di Torre Argentina with the remains of ancient Roman temples; Piazza Trilussa and Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, located both in the historic neighborhood of Trastevere.

Not only art and history, but also a lot of fashion. For those wishing to follow an itinerary full of glamor, Rome does not disappoint. It’s enough to walk around the streets of the city center, between Via del Corso and Via del Babuino, where are the major Italian and international brands , not to mention the area of Campo Marzio: there is plenty of choice for luxury purchases.
Near the Spanish Steps, in fact, there are tons of shops of male and female clothing , accessories and shoes. Rome offers solutions to everyone's taste, but also for all budgets: not all are attractive to large studios, some still prefer the traditional markets where clothes and look for particular objects. The most important market with these characteristics is definitely the one in Porta Portese, where each Sunday, from 6 am to 2pm,  you can find pretty much everything from counterfeit clothing to children's toys . For lovers of art and antiques, however, Via Giulia remains the most captive one to visit.

Pasta, tomato , bacon and cheese make bucatini all’ Amatriciana one of the high-calorie dishes for excellence, but it is worth making an exception to the diet. The original recipe was born in the little Amatrice, where spaghetti with bacon and cheese, was the dish of the shepherds in the central mountain of the Apennines. Then, It was spread throughout Italy. As it is often the case for the typical dishes of Italian culinary tradition, the original recipe has changed, mostly because of personal taste, which led to an evolution of flavor without affecting the deliciousness of the original recipe. We start with the bucatini, correct, but do not miss the other great traditional Roman dishes, such as spaghetti alla carbonara which, it is said, were made with the food rations of the Allies during the Second World War. The Capitoline kitchen is not only based on main courses: in one of the excellent restaurants in the city you can taste typical dishes such as lamb alla romana, oxtail , porchetta of Ariccia , accompanied by the famous artichokes . If you're still standing, close your lunch with a nice maritozzo con la panna’ , hoping that your cholesterol will not get mad at you!

After visiting churches and museums, do not even think for a moment that your day in Rome is finished. In the evening, Rome is hectic at least as much during the day. So, gather all your strength and dive into the nightlife of the city, consisting of restaurants, bars and discos that leave no room for boredom. Given the size of the city , it is easy to imagine the countless alternatives that the evening offers. Fun and entertainment for all tastes, for all budgets and most importantly, for all ages. Just choose the kind of evening that means to you and your every need will be met.
If you are looking for a place to enjoy the Romans, do not miss Campo de Fiori with its pubs and the crowd under the statue of Giordano Bruno. Students gather especially in San Lorenzo, then teeming with cafes. On summer evenings, you can move towards the sea, especially in Ostia, with its bars and clubs near the sea. Do not be overwhelmed by fatigue because it is a real shame stay at home or in a hotel and not to enjoy the nightlife of Rome.
